A Little Fall of Rain________//Pixel Rose tutorial

I use GIMP 2.0, but this tutorial should work in any program. It's quick and very simple to follow.

Open up a blank image or a new layer in the image you want to have roses. Zoom in to about 800%. Choosing a one pixel brush and whatever color you would like your rose to be, draw in an outline. You probably don't want to have the outline be too perfect/symmetrical, because it will look less realistic. If you find the shape not to your liking, you can adjust it as you go.


Flood fill the white spaces of the rose with a lighter shade.


Now it comes time to shade the rose. I chose to use the dodge/burn tool, but you can use whatever method you would like.


And voila! Add some leaves, stems, change the color, whatever you fancy.

Please remember that my methods are not the only ways of doing things, but simply how I have chosen to do them. I would like to share some of my ways with you, in hopes that I might help some aspiring dollers. There are many excellent methods out there, and I am still experimenting and learning.
